Do I have a melanoma?
Every persistent and pigmented lesion should be evaluated by a specialist and biopsied if necessary. There are several signs that help us determine if your skin lesion needs a biopsy (ABCDE):
- Asymmetry
- Border irregularity
- Color change
- Diameter greater than 6 millimeteres
- Elevation
You can help reducing your risk of melanoma or any skin cancer by:
- Covering up to protect from direct sun exposure
- Wearing a hat and putting on sunglasses
- Using a sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher)
- Avoiding a direct sun exposure between 11am and 4pm
- Be aware that tanning beds and other artificial sun sources may increase your risk of any skin cancer.
