            Do I have a melanoma?

Every persistent and pigmented lesion should be evaluated by a specialist and biopsied if necessary. There are several signs that help us determine if your skin lesion needs a biopsy (ABCDE):

  • Asymmetry
  • Border irregularity
  • Color change
  • Diameter greater than 6 millimeteres
  • Elevation

You can help reducing your risk of melanoma or any skin cancer by:

  1. Covering up to protect from direct sun exposure
  2. Wearing a hat and putting on sunglasses
  3. Using a sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher)
  4. Avoiding a direct sun exposure between 11am and 4pm
  5. Be aware that tanning beds and other artificial sun sources may increase your risk of any skin cancer.
